Whether you are making a jewelry box, restoring your own, or helping your children make a little one for themselves, adding felt helps to make it look more upscale and professional. Put the lining inside the drawers and compartment and put small felt pieces on the bottom or the feet to protect the furniture it is sitting on. Purchase small sheets of felt at the craft store, or longer rolls for large projects. Craft glue or spray adhesive both work well for adhering the felt.
Cut out a piece of felt to fit the jewelry box. You can put felt inside drawers and compartments, as well as on the bottom.
Apply a thin layer of glue to the section where you are placing the felt. If using a spray adhesive, spray carefully. If using craft or white glue, spread thinly with a paintbrush.
Allow the glue to get slightly tacky before pressing the felt to the box.
Smooth the felt carefully, being sure to smooth out any glue or air bubbles.
Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before putting anything in the jewelry box.
Use the spray adhesive in a well-ventilated area.
Consider using self-sticking felt; simply peel off the paper backing prior to placing it in the jewelry box. |
