Velvet is a plush and luxurious fabric that can transform a plain wood, plastic or metal jewelry box into one that is more elegant and regal-looking. Although you can create a velvet insert for your jewelry box using standard velvet fabric, attaching velvet fabric using glue is messy. One option is to use self-adhesive velvet fabric that can be trimmed and attached to the jewelry box insert without the need for extraneous glues or other adhesives.

Open the jewelry box and take the insert out of the jewelry box. The insert looks like a tray with different compartments. Measure the area of the main compartment on the bottom of the insert using a measuring tape. Measure the height of the walls of the insert, which are the raised areas used to separate the different compartments in the insert.

Cut out a piece of self-adhesive velvet fabric that measures the area of the main compartment's bottom, adding on the measurement of the height of the walls.

Cut out a square from all four corners of the fabric, one per corner, to the same measurement as the height of the insert walls. Fold the corner edges over toward the center of the fabric shape. The cut out square at each corner will enable the fabric to form against the walls of the insert without buckling or bunching up.

Peel the backing off the velvet shape, then press the adhesive side of the velvet shape onto the bottom of the main compartment. Press the excess fabric along the edges up onto the sides of the compartment.

Repeat this process with each individual compartment inside of the jewelry box insert.

Squeeze a line of colorful glitter glue along the seams of the velvet fabric around the top of each compartment, if you prefer. This will disguise the seams in a decorative way. Allow the glitter glue to dry for at least one hour before using the velvet-lined jewelry box.
