4) Finishes

The exterior finish of the jewelry box is a very important factor to consider. For example, a room with white furniture, light carpet, and light paint would not harbor a dark jewelry box very well. It is best to choose a jewelry box that shares wood tones with the décor of the room where it will reside. Lighter woods and wood finishes are: Maple, Oak, Birch, Beechwood, and Antique white or White. Warm red tone wood finishes are: Cherry, Natural Mahogany and Teak. Dark, rich brown towns would include:

Mahogany finishes, Walnut, Black, Espresso, Okoume and Bubinga. There are also jewelry boxes that have a painted exterior or paper laminate applied creating several creative colors. Green, blue, red, and yellow are popular veneers. Paper laminates may also feature landscapes or pictures, such as unicorns or ballerinas for children’s jewelry boxes. Hand painted jewelry boxes feature a wood finish topped by special paint, usually featuring floral work. Do not focus on matching wood tones exactly (for example, the wood of your dresser to match the wood of the jewelry box) but instead, choose a finish that will compliment all the tones of the room, such as the paint, flooring, or even bedspreads and tapestries. A jewelry box is meant to stand out a bit, not blend into everything else.

5) Security

Security has been an important issue to our customers in the last few years, and also, a question we get frequently. Why would I purchase a jewelry box that locks when a thief could just take the entire jewelry box? This is a valid question, and here is our answer. A locking jewelry box will not stop a thief as much as a lock on your front door won’t stop a thief from breaking the window to enter and remove your items. A locking jewelry box is important for 2 reasons 1) Small hands. If you have children in your home, especially little girls, you have probably experienced a jewelry box raid. Locking your jewelry box will keep little hands from sneaking in and misplacing precious items. 2) Hired help. Unfortunately, even the most trusted help is not always as secure as you would like. We have heard from too many customers about house cleaners, babysitters, and other hired help around the home connected with missing jewelry. It is better to prevent temptation by locking your collection to be safe. Jewelkeepers is a line we carry that locks the entire jewelry box, including the drawers, not just the lid which is common in the market. This is an excellent choice for anyone who has a lot of activity in the home.
